The European Commission should ensure it has plans for factual solidarity to be implemented because it was still far from having a fair system of burden sharing when it came to irregular migration, MEP Miriam Dalli said.

She was speaking during a meeting with Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, who addressed the European Civil Liberties Committee.

Dr Dalli referred to the Frontex Plus proposal and said clarifications were needed on how this was going to operate, whether it was to be more limited than Mare Nostrum and how.

She said that the uncertainty about how this incentive was to operate was creating many uncertainties.
