Cuba's Osleidys Menendez will not defend her javelin title at this month's World Championships in Osaka after aggravating a leg injury. The world record holder and Olympic champion told Reuters she would concentrate on getting fit and preparing for the Beijing Games next year.

"I'm dreaming of a world record in Beijing and I want to prepare properly, adding a few technical details to my throws," she said.

Menendez, 27, holds the world record of 71.70 metres which she set at the World Championships in Helsinki two years ago.
