Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella today discussed bilateral relations with his counterpart in the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

The two Ministers spoke at length about developments in their respective regions and discussed ways in which bilateral contacts could be further enhanced, including in the field of higher education, culture, commercial and consular issues.

Sheikh Bin Zayed Al Nahyan referred to his wish to visit Malta in the coming months to further cement relations between the two countries, which he termed as excellent.

Dr Vella underlined Malta's potential in a number of fields which could be of interest to the UAE and encouraged the country to further build upon its constructive role in the region.

The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on political cooperation that sets the framework for more active exchanges between the two ministries.
