Dingli Swallows 0
Mellieha 1

\n

A Wayne Borg St John winner saw Mellieha obtaining their second consecutive victory as Dingli, who had two players sent off, succumbed to their second successive upset.

Mellieha dictated the run of play early on. Their drive was given a boost in the 31st minute when Dingli's Steve Callus was sent off for a foul on Mario Cutajar.

In the 41st minute, Mellieha midfielder Mario Debono advanced all alone but lobbed high over the bar to waste an easy chance.

Two minutes into the second period, Borg St John concluded some fine work from Chris Gauci and Mario Debono to put the northerners in the driving seat.

Dingli were struggling with a man less and their problems were compounded seven minutes from time when striker Darren Attard was red-carded for a second booking.

In injury time, Jeffrey Gauci hit the bar for Mellieha.

Attard 5
Xghajra Tornadoes 2

Attard recovered from their heavy defeat to St George's as they beat Xghajra thanks to a sound second-half display.

Xghajra opened the score after 20 minutes through Wayne Nappa but on the half-hour it was all-square when Josef Axisa headed home from a Chris Ciappara free-kick.

The second half was dominated by Attard who scored two quick goals through Ciappara and former Zurrieq player Marco Sultana.

In the 58th minute, an off-the-ball incident led to Xghajra's Gordon Borg being sent off and three minutes later Attard were awarded a penalty for a foul on Eman Ciappara. Ciappara made no mistake from the spot - 4-1.

Xghajra reduced the arrears, through Damien D'Amato in the 66th minute, but Ciappara soon sealed his hat-trick to make it 5-2.

Gzira United 1
Vittoriosa Stars 1

This was the second consecutive draw for both teams with the main protagonist being Gzira veteran Ian Buhagiar who came on as a substitute and scored his side's equaliser.

Vittoriosa took the lead after just 11 minutes when Charles Cachia headed in a Robert Adami cross.

Then, the Stars were once again close when Adami's lob was cleared off the line by Etienne Cini.

Gzira hit back strongly after the break but had to wait until the 79th minute to draw level when substitute Buhagiar hit home from a corner.

Zurrieq 0
Zebbug Rangers 1

An Elton Catania goal was enough for Zebbug to notch their first victory as the Reds are still without a point from two outings.

The match was a low-key affair with Zurrieq's Matthew Genuis very active for his side early on.

In the 26th minute, Zebbug could have taken the lead but Stefan Micallef, after having dribbled his way through, shot high over the bar when all alone in front of goal.

Catania scored the goal that mattered in the 63rd minute after a hasty clearance by Zurrieq defender Godfrey Chetcuti had bounced off the bar.

In injury-time Zebbug goalie Pace made a difficult save on Aaron Bugeja to preserve his team's lead.

Zejtun Corinthians 1
Gozo FC 4

Gozo FC joined Mellieha and St George's on top after cruising past Zejtun with a fine second half performance.

The Gozitans dictated the run of play during the first half but the Corinthians were well organised at the back. Early on Gozo twice were close through efforts by Brian Meilaq and Franco Magrin. Zejtun's reply produced a low shot by Lawrence Duncan which was saved by Falzon.

The second half was dominated by Gozo who took the lead in the 67th minute through substitute Daniel Attard with John Camilleri making it 2-0 four minutes later.

In the 73rd minute, Alex Tramboo hit Gozo's third before Camilleri sealed the points for the Gozitans.

Zejtun obtained a consolation goal two minutes from time from a Vince Camilleri penalty kick.

St Andrews 0
St George's 1

An injury-time goal scored by Nazzareno Abela led to joint-leaders St George's second consecutive victory. Lawrence Mizzi missed a penalty for the Cottonera side.

The first half was very balanced as both defences annulled the opposing forward lines. The Saints went close after 12 minutes from an Anthony Galea free-kick while for St George's Mizzi's shot just missed the target.

St George's took the initiative after the break and in the 52nd minute they were unlucky when a shot by Vince Camilleri hit the crossbar.

Six minutes later they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Pisani on Abela but Mizzi's shot from the spot was saved by Cini.

On 84 minutes, St George's hit the post for a second time after a Dale Spiteri's shot. However, St George's efforts were finally rewarded in injury time when Abela hit a dramatic winner.

Division Three

Gharghur 1
Pembroke Athleta 0

Ex-Melita player Christian Glass had a fine debut for Gharghur as he scored the winner against Pembroke.

The first period was a drab affair though with Pembroke creating the better chances. Twice, Gharghur 'keeper Mark Aquilina was called to deny Clint Hili and Jeffrey Fenech.

Gharghur assumed the initiative in the second half and 19 minutes from time they obtained the goal that mattered thanks to Glass.

Referee: Mariano Debono.

Siggiewi 4
Sirens 0

This was an easy victory for Siggiewi in a match they dominated throughout the 90 minutes.

Siggiewi deservedly took the lead on 16 minutes from a Roderick Farrugia cross shot. Sirens' reply was weak and two minutes before half-time Pierre Spiteri made it 2-0.

Siggiewi were still in the driving seat after the break, and made sure of a comprehensive victory with two other goals from Josef Micallef and Robert Sammut.

Referee: Sadia Mizzi.

Ghaxaq 0
Melita 2

The Amateurs battled hard for the three points. Ghaxaq had the more enterprising start but gradually, Melita settled down and after a couple of near misses, Steve Magri put them ahead on the half hour.

Ghaxaq played better after the restart. Sandro Lapira was first on a loose ball but hit high. Matthew Borg was a whisker away from a second Melita goal but ten minutes from time it was 2-0. Melita were awarded a penalty for a foul on Borg and the same player scored from the spot.

Six minutes from time Ghaxaq defender Gordon Buhagiar was sent off for rough play.

Referee: Glen Tonna.

Kirkop United 3
Fgura United 1

Kirkop opened their league commitments with a fine win over Fgura as the latter wasted various chances during the opening half.

Fgura were the better team in the opening stages but Kevin Gatt blundered in front of goal and Patrick Cilia heading over a Gauci cross.

The second half was dictated by Kirkop. They broke the deadlock after three minutes through Mark Camilleri and midway through the half increased their lead after an Albert Caruana solo move.

In stoppage time Cilia pulled one back for Fgura but substitute Charles Pace re-established his team's two-goal lead with another goal for Kirkop.

Referee: Malcolm Mercieca.
