Division Two

Mellieha 3
Xghajra Tornadoes 0

This was Mellieha's third victory of the season which saw the northerners moving to the third position in the standings, only two points behind leaders Gzira.

Mellieha dominated the first period and opened the score after 23 minutes from a penalty for a foul on Wayne Borg St John. Mario Cutajar scored from the spot.

In the 35th minute, Borg St John made it 2-0 following a good move between Chris Cutajar and Adrian Galea. Four minutes before the break Carter denied Mellieha a third goal after a fine save on Mario Debono's shot.

Mellieha reduced the pressure after the interval but still created various goal scoring chances. Carter did well to avoid further embarrassment for Xghajra but could do nothing to hold Galea from notching Mellieha's third goal.

Zurrieq 3
Zejtun Corinthians 2

Two late goals turned defeat into victory for Zurrieq leaving Zejtun still languishing at the bottom of the table with just one point from six matches.

The Reds were the better team at first and twice went close through Philip Farrugia and Joe Lia. On 21 minutes, they broke the deadlock when Godfrey Chetcuti surprised goalkeeper Mark Pace. However, Zejtun soon drew level from a penalty, converted by Marco Gerada.

Zejtun then wasted easy chances to go ahead but just before the break Vince Camilleri put them 2-1 up from a free-kick.

Zurrieq attacked for long stretches after the break but had to wait until the 83rd minute to score an equaliser, again thanks to a Chetcuti goal.

Two minutes from time, Zurrieq hit a dramatic winner when Philip Farrugia's piledriver flew inside the Zejtun net.

Division Three

Deserved victory for Fgura

Luqa St Andrews 1
Fgura United 4

This was a deserved victory for Fgura in their quest to gain promotion this season. They are now second in the standings and look all geared up for the title chase.

Luqa dictated the run of play in the initial stages but gradually Fgura started sharing the exchanges and in the 40th minute Eric Lia profited from a mistake inside the opponents' half before lobbing home over Alan Bonnici.

In the 58th minute, Fgura scored their second goal through Patrick Cilia after a swift counter attack.

On 75 minutes, they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Steve Mangion. Elvin Gauci made it 3-0 from the spot.

Five minutes from time, Luqa reduced the arrears when Mark Said headed home from a corner but then Luqa's last man Godwin Pulis was sent off for a foul. From the ensuing free-kick Aldo Pace made Fgura's victory more pronounced - 4-1.

Referee: Glen Tonna.

Ghaxaq 0
Sirens 0

This was a balanced match, dominated by the two sets of defences.

A point each left the two sides still hovering in the bottom half of the standings.

Scoring chances fell to Chris Camilleri and Robert Agius for Ghaxaq as a Jesmond Cardona effort for Sirens was ably saved by Ivan Mula.

After the interval Sirens gained the initiative but in the 63rd minute Xuereb completely missed his chance in front of the Ghaxaq goal.

Referee: Saviour Tanti.

Sta Venera 1
Ta' Xbiex 0

A goal scored by captain Mark Buttigieg saw Sta Venera through in this match which never reach any high levels as Ta' Xbiex reeled to a second successive defeat.

As expected, Sta Venera dictated matters from the start, Stephen Said twice going close in the early stages.

Brian Grech almost gave Ta' Xbiex a surprise lead as Josef Taliana and Jeffrey Zammit could have done better for the Saints.

However, just before the break, Buttigieg found space in the Ta' Xbiex box and hit home what proved to be the winning goal from a corner.

There was no story after the restart as Sta Venera closed all avenues to keep Ta' Xbiex at bay.

Referee: Adrian Ferriggi.

Sta Lucija 1
Pembroke Athleta 4

Albert Cristiano's Pembroke chalked up their fourth successive victory to take provisional pole in the standings.

It was always going to be an uphill struggle for Sta Lucija who had goalkeeper Adrian Buttigieg sent off for handling the ball outside his box in the 23rd minute.

Pembroke did not take much long to break the stalemate. In fact, in the 29th minute Joe Gauci scored from a distance and Simon Buhagiar made it 3-0 with a brace either side of half-time.

Sta Lucija reduced the deficit in the 59th minute thanks to an excellent Matthew Sciortino goal. But Pembroke sealed the issue 12 minutes from time when substitute Duncan Edwards finished off a fine Clint Hili move.

Referee: George Bitri.
