Recognised as the fastest internet option available locally, Melita's cable internet service has surpassed the 50,000-subscriber mark, and continued to register a strong demand for its high-speed broadband internet service, the company said last week.

The Vassallo family of Siggiewi has been identified as Melita's 50,001st cable internet subscriber.

The family's connection has been upgraded to 30 Mbits per second, and the next six months' service has been granted to them for free.

"Melita's robust super-fast internet service has been attracting much interest from internet users," Melita's head of marketing Malcolm Briffa said.

"Melita's unique 30 Mbit internet connection has catapulted the organisation to the forefront of internet service providers in Malta. Our customers have responded positively to this breakthrough by increasingly trusting Melita's products and services over other providers. Today, we are the number one internet provider on the Maltese Islands, both in terms of product offering and customer base." Melita's internet and connectivity platform is currently being enhanced following a €10 million investment in a new, state-of-the-art fibre optic submarine cable connecting Malta to the rest of the world.

The cable will provide increased capacity for international connectivity, improved redundancy and reliability, a superior performance and enhanced quality of service.

"With the ever-evolving internet market, bandwidth and speed are becoming an essential requirement to keep up with today's demanding lifestyle. Melita strives to ensure a reliable and speedy internet connection to all its clients, for this reason Melita continues to broaden its knowledge and capacity on internet technologies," Mr Briffa pointed out.
