Melita Mobile said today that data provided by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) for the first six months of this year showed that it attracted the largest net number of customers switching from one mobile operator to another.

"Switching of existing numbers from one operator to another shows that Melita Mobile attracted around 2,500 customers in the first six months of 2012. Results for other mobile operators vary from winning 20 new customers or losing more than 3000 customers over six months respectively," the company said.

"This trend follows previous data covering earlier periods where Melita Mobile was also the provider of choice for customers when switching operators and keeping their existing mobile number."

Michael Darmanin, Director of Business Services and Marketing welcomed the result and said it positioned Melita Mobile as the value proposition and money saver in mobile services.

"These positive results also follow other very encouraging results published by the MCA which confirmed Melita’s 11% subscriber market share (March 2012) and 60,000 active customers in just three years of operation,” he said.

MCA data also showed that almost a quarter of all the mobile minutes in Malta originated from Melita’s mobile network, Melita said.
