The National Commission Persons with Disability will be holding a consultation meeting about the Guardianship Bill.

The Bill, approved by Cabinet on April 16, was welcomed by the commission as it introduces a mechanism that makes the legal guardians of disabled people accountable.

It will allow Malta to fulfil its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which requires member states to “recognise that persons with disabilities enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others on all aspects of life”.

The meeting that will be held on May 24 at 5 p.m. at the Bugeia Institute, Braille Street, Santa Venera.
