Hibs Medsea chalked up their 13th consecutive victory in the women's league after beating third-placed Ergon Projects Luxol while Depiro McDonald's, strengthened with the signing of Kalia Agius, consolidated their second place in the standings thanks to their victory over Honey Athleta.

After a balanced opening, Medsea started pulling away after the interval to pave the way to victory.

Luxol had the better opening to the game, though, and four consecutive three-pointers saw them 12-4 ahead.

Medsea, however, came back to level the score at 12-all at the end of the first quarter. The champions then went on to open a 16-12 lead but Luxol regrouped to nose ahead 20-17, only for Medsea to bounce back and change ends 27-22 in front.

As the match progressed, Luxol started to fade away with Medsea enjoying a 43-25 advantage before the last quarter got under way.

With coach Ruth Spiteri unable to raise the Luxol players' confidence, Medsea had little difficulty in security a 52-28 victory.

Depiro, parading Maltese-Canadian pivot Agius for the first time, dominated underneath the boards and Athleta were never in the match.

Agius left her mark by finishing top scorer with 24 points.

She is a strong rebounder and a lethal finisher from inside the zone, certainly an asset for her new team.

After leading 29-10 at the end of the first quarter, Depiro changed ends 47-17 ahead. Though Athleta upped their game, Depiro continued to be the better side for a clear 94-51 victory.

In another match, St James Hospital had the better of Empire Cinema Stunners 48-30.
