Another leaflet with information on reference, generic and falsified medicines has been published by the Medicines Authority as part of the 'Know Your Medicines' campaign launched in January.
The campaign aims to enhance the safe and rational use of medicines through the dissemination of information on the choice and use of medicines for health care professionals and patients alike.
The leaflet, in Maltese and English, will be distributed to all households in Malta and Gozo. It is also available at www.knowyourmedicines.gov.mt.
The Know Your Medicines initiatives include the publication of another information leaflet 'Things you need to know about your medicines' which was distributed through pharmacies, clinics and local councils.
Healthcare professionals and patients are encouraged to visit and use the Malta Medicines List www.maltamedicineslist.com which provides information on products authorised to be placed on the market in Malta.
The website includes information on the World Health Organisation's Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System, the active ingredient, the name and form of the product, whether the medicine is prescription or over the counter, contact details for more information and access to package leaflets and the summary of product characteristics.
