The government has announced immediate cuts in the prices of 17 medicines, including those used for cervical cancer and inhalers used by asthmatics.
It said that the price of 146 medicines has been reduced since July 2010 following the intervention of Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said.
The price cuts announced today range from 2% to 27% to reflect price levels on mainland Europe.
The medicines include Cervaris (0.5ml suspension for injection in a pre-filled syringe) which is used to counter cervical cancer. Its price has been reduced by €40.61, or 27%.
The inhaler Seredite Diskus has seen its price reduced by €11.03 or 15%. Flixotide Evohaler has seen its price reduced by €2 of 11%.
Tamiflu prices fell by between 12 and 16% according to dose and packet.
