The Malta Employers’ Association said the recent increase in fuel prices in Malta is creating severe difficulties for many businesses. While hoping that the current surge in international oil prices is temporary and will stabilise if the situation in Arab countries returns to normal, the Association pointed out that the current increases are not a result of the Arab crisis since this is a reflection of oil purchased months ago.

In case of a prolonged crisis, the Association fears further increases which will cripple many businesses. This makes it all the more essential for Enemalta and the Malta Resources Authority to ensure better efficiencies in the purchasing of fuel and generation of energy, it said.
