The Malta Dockers' Union had challenged Alec McFadden, President of the Merseyside Trade Union Council, to say where and when it had backed the actions being taken by Malta Freeport against the GWU.
Mr McFadden in a statement yesterday said that: "Merseyside TUC also totally condemns the Malta Dockers Union MDU in supporting the action of the employer and the courts against the GWU."
The MDU said Mr McFadden should carefully look into what had led the GWU to create this senseless issue which was endangering the port workers' jobs.
He should also look into why the GWU was not prepared to open its books for the scrutiny of the Director of Industrial Relations.
The courts on Thursday imposed a €1 million garnishee order on the GWU at the request of Malta Freeport, which claimed to have suffered damages as a result of industrial action.
The GWU filed an application this afternoon for a revocation of the garnishee order and demanded that Malta Freeport deposit €8 million as a guarantee to damages being caused to it by the garnishee order.
