The Malta Developers Association (MDA) has called for 'the necessary steps' to be taken against anyone responsible for the inferior quality concrete at Mater Dei Hospital.

In a statement, the association condemned said it condemned the actions of all those who failed to fulfil their obligations in the building of this hospital.

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said the problem of inferior concrete was causing problems for nurses in the Casualty Department, who had to go about their duties while repair works were carried out. Similar problems were expected in Block D when similar works were taken in hand.

The union regretted how the Maltese people had been defrauded of millions, saying the funds would have been better used to improve the hospital, increase the number of nurses, and improve their working conditions.
