Malta Developers Association President Sandro Chetcuti said today that the association ould be in favour of the site chosen for the American University of Malta if this was "in the national interest"

"Prima facie, and basing ourselves on what the government has said, it seems this project is indeed in the national interest" he remarked. However, he called for more efforts to find an alternate site or else develop a smaller area by having more floors.

Asked for any suggestions on alternate sites he said he was not in a position to come up with any ideas, saying he was not aware of the requirements for such project.

The MDA president was speaking during a meeting with the Alternattiva Demokratika.

Deputy chairperson Carmel Cacopardo praised the work being done by the Malta Developers Association saying its creation had contributed to reduce the number of "cowboys" in the construction industry.

On his part AD chairperson Arnold Cassola expressed concern government was promoting major projects outside development zones such at the university campus at Zonqor and the Gozo cruise liner terminal.
