McLaren revealed their new formula one car today amid hopes that it would return the team to the front of the grid after a dismal season.

The MP4-29 was launched online, days before it takes to the test track next week.

This is the last McLaren to be powered by a Mercedes engine, with the team renewing its partnership with Honda next year.

The design features a raft of changes made necessary by the new regulations, including a narrow protruding nose and a new arrangement to cool the new Mercedes turbo engine. There is also a smaller rear wing.

McLaren still do not have a title sponsor and there are also questions over who their team principal will be, with Eric Boullier, expected to take over from Martin Whitmarsh.

Boullier resigned from financially troubled Lotus today.

Lotus this morning issued a computer-generated image of their new car - revealing a split sloping nose section. Lotus, however, have announced that they will miss the first test.

Ferrari are due to launch their challenger tomorrow.
