MCAST has formally launched degree programmes for students and members of staff as part of a project funded by the European Social Fund.

The project is made up of three components: vocational degrees over a three-year period in all MCAST Institutes for students who achieve the higher national diploma; a masters degree programme for academic staff, and short courses of professional development for all staff.

MCAST officials told the Prime Minister during a tour of the college this morning that the project is being undertaking in collaboration with Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a world renowned German research institution known by many as the developer of the MP3. Through Fraunhofer, MCAST has acquired access to practically all universities in Germany.

Dr Gonzi said such collaboration was the best investment for the future and the best way to overcome the recession.

MCAST will shortly issue a call for applications for the first group of its vocational degree programmes in the institutes of art and design, business and commerce, electronics and electrical engineering, and information and communication technology.
