The Malta Billiards and Snooker Association will be holding its annual general meeting next month.

There are various topics on the agenda but the election of a new secretary general, during the September 7 morning meeting at the Anglo Maltese Club, Valletta, is probably the hottest issue of the lot.

Former secretary general Anthony Cini, considered by many as one of the most dedicated and efficient officials since his election in 1994, recently decided to call it quits and will not be seeking a re-election.

Contacted yesterday Cini said billiards and snooker are very popular in Malta but reckons they deserve more respect and coverage from the media and the authorities.

He said it will be hard for him to live without the game and added that he had no regrets for spending the past eight years as MBSA official. However, he deems that now is the appropriate time for him to retire and dedicate more time for himself and his family.

The MBSA, in a statement, said Cini had already informed the Council about his decision and added that the organisation was highly-appreciative of his sterling service during his years as secretary general.

Meanwhile, the MBSA also said that a presentations night, during which the 2001/2002 winners will be awarded, will be held at Club 147, Marsa, on August 30.
