The Mediterranean Bank Network and the World Savings Banks Institute (sister organisation of the European Savings Banks Group) are co-organising an international financial services conference in Malta, entitled: 'Impact of the Euro-Mediterranean Integration Process on the Financial Services Industry in the Mediterranean Region'.

The international conference is being held at the InterContinental on November 27-28. It is envisaged that the international conference will be attended not just by the co-organisers' respective members but also by any institution (private or public) or practitioner related to or involved in the financial services industry from all over the Mediterranean.

The two-day conference, which precedes the much anticipated Euro-Mediterranean Foreign Ministers meeting of December 2 and 3 in Naples, Italy, aims to bring together in one forum as wide a spectrum of Euro-Med nationalities as possible from the financial services sector. They will explore, discuss, evaluate and recommend effective ways to realise continued Euro-Med growth and prosperity.

They also aim to understand better the opportunities available as a result of Euro-Med initiatives as promoted by the European Union (currently under the Italian Presidency), the European Investment Bank (particularly through FEMIP otherwise known as the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment & Partnership), the European Central Bank and the World Bank.

Ultimately, however, the principal value of opportunity for those participating in this international conference is that it will bring together under one Euro-Med pergola, leading European and Mediterranean banks, financial services institutions, legal practitioners and Euro-Med Parliamentarians or Diplomats involved directly/indirectly in the financial services industry and of course the respective members of the co-organisers.

The specialised two-day international conference, which is being organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Government (current holders of the EU Presidency), and is being sponsored by leading European and Mediterranean banks, will have key note addresses delivered by speakers from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Malta, the European Central Bank and the European Investment Bank, as well as presentations delivered by the World Bank and prominent Euro-Med banks' specialists in their respective fields.

The conference also promises to be a unique networking activity for financial services institutions involved in or related to the local or Euro-Mediterranean financial services industry with attendance envisaged from virtually all the Mediterranean countries.
