The Malta Basketball Association were in party mood today as it celebrated the success of the women’s national team in the European Championship Division C in Yerevan, Armenia last weekend.

Santino Coppa’s girls beat hosts Armenia 74-65 in Saturday’s final to become the first European team to win back-to-back titles in the continental competition after their triumph in Luxembourg two years ago.

For the MBA this was their third consecutive success in international competition after they had also won a gold medal in the Games of the Small States of Europe, in Cyprus last year.

Members of the Malta national team convened at the Le Meridien Hotel in St Julians for a celebration party which was also attended by association president, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi, Sinam Onem, Managing Director of sponsors Detur Operations and Trading Ltd and FIBA Europe secretary Nar Zanolin.

The Labour Party and the PN in separate statements congratulated the team on its success.
