Stefan Mazrocis came up trumps in the first Challenge Tour event of the season with a 6-2 defeat of Paul Davison in the final last weekend in Wales.

Victory for the experienced Mazrocis was worth £5,000, but more importantly it greatly boosted his chances of returning to the Main Tour for next season. The top 16 on the Order of Merit after four events will qualify.

Mazrocis, 36, opened the final with a break of 69 and never looked back. He finished with breaks of 105 and 88 to record a comfortable victory.

His previous career highlights include reaching the quarter-finals of the Asian Classic in 1996. On his way to the final last week, Mazrocis eliminated Malta champion Alex Borg 5-4 in a tense third-round match.

Event Two from the Challenge Tour 2003/04 will also be played in Wales between December 2 and 8.
