A superlight show car capturing the pure essence of the Mazda MX-5 will see its world premiere at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show which opens on September 15.
After 20 years of global success, Mazda MX-5 is the best-selling two-seat sports car in the world. At Frankfurt, Mazda will present a new take on its affordable roadster in an all-new show car, the Mazda MX-5 Superlight version, designed at Mazda's studio in Oberursel, Germany.
A pure show car, it takes the lightweight technology that Mazda is renowned for to a new level, which improves driving performance, handling, fuel economy and CO2 emissions. This is combined with a radical exterior design requiring no windshield, and sporty chassis settings for pure roadster driving fun.
Meanwhile, the MX-5 has again been selected for critical acclaim in the 2009 Auto Express New Car Awards.
Presenting the Mazda MX-5 with a class-topping annual award for the fourth successive year, the judges from the UK's best-selling weekly automotive magazine ranked the iconic two-seater, rear-wheel drive sports car as 'Best Roadster' - beating BMW and Porsche rivals for the top ranking.
Significantly upgraded for 2009, the 10-strong range of new Mazda MX-5 sports cars, available with either traditional soft-top or in roadster coupe form featuring a powered retractable hard top, have a fresh design that enhances their dynamic appeal and is harmonised with Mazda's next-generation Mazda 6, Mazda 3 and Mazda 2 line-up.
The Mazda MX-5, in both a hard top and a soft top, is available for a free test drive from the Gasan Automotive Centre in Mrieħel.
