Chev. Maurice Mizzi presented a donation of €40,000 to the Spiro Mizzi foundation during a Parent’s Day event that took place at Santa Margerita Primary School in Senglea.

Chev. Mizzi also made donations to Senglea Primary School (€5,250), Vittoriosa Catechism Centre (€1,830.66), Southern Comfort (€4,940) and to Senglea parish church (UK trip for two altar boys – €3,000).

The event, centred on ‘plant a flower day’, gave the students an opportunity to showcase dances, small shows and even prepare some poetry for their parents and teachers. Moreover, in honour of the day’s sentiment, Il-Qronfla generously donated 70 petunias to be planted by the children in the school’s secret garden as a way to help them celebrate our environment and to teach future generations how to respect and care for their surroundings.

Out of a population of 14,000 students attending the University of Malta, only 160 students are from the Cottonera area

The Spiro Mizzi Foundation is a non-profit organisation in Malta, set up by the Mizzi organisation’s president, Maurice Mizzi, to support and honour the new generations born and living in Cottonera and the surrounding harbour area – the birthplace of his late father, Spiridone Mizzi.

Studies have shown that out of a population of 14,000 students attending the University of Malta, only 160 students are from the Cottonera area. Disappointed with the reality of the situation, Chev. Mizzi set up the Spiro Mizzi Foundation to help less fortunate children from this area benefit from the same academic opportunities other children may have in other parts of Malta.

Funds will be allocated to various investments in classrooms, computers, books, teachers, extracurricular activities and music instruments.

Those wishing to help out can do so by donating to the Spiro Mizzi Foundation, c/o Continental Cars Ltd, Princess Margaret Street, Msida MSD 1330 through HSBC Bank (Malta) plc – Commercial Branch, Mill Street, Qormi; Account no: 43015130001.

One can also support the foundation by purchasing Maurice Mizzi’s new CD or his book The Pleasures of Gardening in the Maltese Islands from Agenda bookshops.
