Lower-scale Mater Dei Hospital employees won their battle for free parking less than 24 hours after the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin set an ultimatum.

Employees on salary scales 13 to 20 were allowed free parking as from Saturday, the union’s government’s employees and health services section said yesterday.

Just 24 hours earlier, the union had set an ultimatum over the “exaggerated delays” in the ongoing negotiations, which dated back to when St Luke’s Hospital was still in use, threatening the authorities with industrial action.

Unlike other staff, employees on salary scales 13 to 20 were charged 47c to park at the hospital’s car park.
