Mario Bonello (centre) added another achievement to his CV on Saturday when he captured the gold medal in the 100m (35-40 years) at the European Masters Championships in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. Bonello won the final in 11.08 seconds, finishing ahead of Spain's Carlos Herrera and Germany's Harald Kohler. The Maltese athlete was unable to savour the national anthem during the presentation ceremony because of an oversight by the organisers. Bonello is now scheduled to run at the European Open Athletics Championships in Barcelona later this month. His participation at the Euro Masters wouldn't have been possible without the backing of the Maltese Olympic Committee through their Centre of Excellence schemes, the Malta Amateur Athletics Association, the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (20/20 scheme) and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs.
