A massive water main burst in south east Melbourne, Australia spewed water at least 10 storeys into the air this morning.

At least one home was severely damaged. A metal cage that covered the water main was thrust into the air by the water and landed on a roof.

Officials at the local water utilities company said they are investigating the cause of the incident, although Australian media are reporting that a faulty air ball valve caused the burst.

The spout was turned off around 1230 local time.
