An educational martial arts course entitled Jien qed nitgħallem l-Aikido (I am learning Aikido), first screened on TV channel E22 last year, is now available for sale as a two-DVD for €20 from the TV station's offices at Mile End Street, Ħamrun.
The course is presented by local sensei Kevin Bonanno and filmed at the Aikido Yamato Club at San Ġorġ Preca College's Maria Assumpta Girls' Secondary, Ħamrun.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that involves meditation and the study and use of non-violent techniques to defend oneself against aggression.
Among its other benefits are increased fitness, self-awareness, self-esteem, inner strength and development, ability to remain calm and think clearly in times of stress, and mind and body co-ordination.
Aikido is ideal for women as it does not rely on strength or aggression.
The course is also suitable for sports educators, police officers and teenagers looking for non-violent alternatives to resolve conflicts.
