A league and cup double will be a perfect way for Marsaxlokk to complete their short stay in Division One this season as the championship winners play St George's in the Maltco KO final today at the Hibs Stadium.

Marsaxlokk secured promotion back to the Premier League with weeks to spare as they showed supremacy and were hardly ever dislodged from first place as the season went along.

Patrick Curmi's team only lost one match from 18 played in the league.

That upset came to St George's in the first round (1-2) so the southseasiders will not take things easy today, knowing the Saints, whose promotion challenge fizzled away in the second round, will be equally determined to end the season on a top note.

Marsaxlokk, who trounced St George's 5-0 on coronation day earlier this month, reached the last-four stage without defeat, scoring 15 goals in four group matches before eliminating Mqabba 4-0 in the semi-finals.

Curmi has a doubt on midfield dynamo Martin Deanov, who faces a late fitness test after a back injury.

The Marsaxlokk coach has a resourceful squad to rely on but still expects stiff resistance from St George's today.

"This is the last match of the season so both teams will be looking to finish on a high," Curmi said.

"We beat them 5-0 when we met last but we're not looking into that match too deeply. We know St George's are a better team than that. They beat us in the first round and also had their own good moments in the championship.

"I'm not expecting a relaxed evening, this is a final after all. However, we want to add this cup to the league title to make it a memorable double for Marsaxlokk."

St George's, who finished fourth in the league, 12 points behind Marsaxlokk, lost one but won three qualifiers to make the semis where they had the better of holders St Patrick 2-1.

Coach Joey Falzon, in his second year at St George's, will have defender Daniel Galea missing to serve suspension.

He knows his team is facing a mammoth task to deny Marsaxlokk the double but is relying on his players to produce their best form.

"Marsaxlokk deserve to be where they are because they were the best team in Division One," Falzon said.

"We beat them in the league this season though and finals are always 50-50 affairs so I'm urging my players to give their all. Marsaxlokk start favourites but I'm sure we can surprise them if we stick to our gameplan."

Kick-off: 19.00 - Hibs Stadium.

Past winners: 2007 - Tarxien Rainbows; 2008 - Dingli Swallows; 2009 - St Patrick.
