Over the weekend, Marsa CC took on new touring team Quick 1888, from Nijmegen, Holland.

Quick won the toss on Saturday and elected to bowl first. Mark G. Sacco and Sarfraz Ali opened the batting.

Ali was first to go, scoring 16 runs from 11 balls. Sacco went on to make 22.

Angelo Spiteri added 37 runs and John Callus 18 as the innings of the day came from Andrew Naudi who hit two 6s and ten 4s as he raced to his second century this year.

For Quick, P. van Noord was the main wicket-taker with three.

Marsa totalled 237 runs from their allotted overs.

In the visitors’ reply, P. van Noord top-scored for his team with 32 runs. S.A. Mohammed had 22 and J. Dupon played a very long innings for a 24.

J.W Heshusius chipped in with 19 and W. Brand 21 as Quick batted through their allotted overs but could only manage 164 runs.

Marsa won the toss on Sunday and elected to bat first.

Nowell Khosla was first to go after 10 runs and Malcolm Crabbe, Khosla’s opening partner, was next out by Debbie Kooij, a former Dutch women’s team player.

Faraaz Bhatti made 23, Firoz 26, Joydeep Ghoseroy 32 and a flurry of runs towards the end of the innings from Tony Azzopardi, 41 not out, helped Marsa to score 185 runs.

Quick fell short by 55 runs in their reply. Mohammed was the visitors’ best scorer with 23. Marsa won the series 2-0.

Today, the two sides meet in a 20-over game.

On Saturday, Highgate Taveners will join Quick 1888 and Marsa in a one-day 20-over tournament. The locals play the Taveners in a 40-game on Sunday.
