A group of players from the Marsa Sports Club squash section recently toured Krakow and Tychy, in Poland, for a series of matches against local teams.

Marsa first played against a surprisingly strong Tychy side. Elaine Catania, however, still managed a notable win over Tychy’s no.1 junior Wojciech Majchert.

Catania’s effort in that 3-2 win earned her the prize for ‘best performance’ on the day.

The following day saw another series of close matches, this time against a Krakow selection.

Catania maintained her fine form and secured a comfortable 3-0 victory as Marsa won four encounters in all.

In the end, however, Krakow came out on top 6-4.

On the third and final day of competition, Marsa SC figured in the Krakow Open at the Atlantic Squash and Wellness Club.

Marsa SC no.1 player, Carl Camilleri, secured third place and Christer Gustafson played some of his finest squash to finish seventh as Colette Sultana also did well and placed 10th overall.

In a statement, the Marsa Sports Club team showed their appreciation to the Polish organisers, Malta Enterprise, Malta Chamber of Commerce, Maltese Tourism Authority and Savina Gozo.

Such trips help to strengthen and develop the sport by providing local players with new challenges and experiences.

It is hoped that friendships made with the Polish players can be renewed next spring when it is their turn to visit Malta, the statement said.
