Three Globalair Summer League games were played over the weekend. The first fixture on Saturday pitted together Marsa and Krishna, the two front-runners of the competion.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bat. Sam Dhandapani top-scored with 32 runs, Malcolm Crab scored 28 and Nowell Khosla 23. These three were the main scorers for their team from a total of 126 runs from their allotted overs.

Mike Caruana was the main wicket-taker with three for the Marsa side.

Marsa got a huge shock in their reply when Chris Naudi was bowled out in the very first ball of the innings, off an inside edge of his bat. Mark G. Sacco was bowled in the very next over and Marsa were soon struggling at two wickets for four runs.

But, then came the match-winning partnership of Mike Caruana (55 not out) and Ronnie Sacco (60) which was worth 118 runs. Marsa reached their target with three balls to spare.

The second game on Saturday was between Overseas and Melita. This match had the highest run aggregate in a game so far in the league.

Melita batted first and scored a massive 166 runs. Tim Edwards hit a brilliant 101, scoring ten 4s and a six along the way.

Overseas did well in the run chase but fell short by 19 runs.

Stuart Lloyd was 89 not out, his tally including 12 fours and a six. Melita won their second game of the tournament.

On Sunday, Overseas played Krishna in the postponed game. Overseas batted first and totalled 110 runs. They had Justin Barlogio with a score of 51 not out and Stuart Lloyd 24.

For Krishna, Sam Dhandapani was the main wicket-taker with two.

Krishna made up for their upset the day before and chased down the runs, reaching their target within 13 overs. Alan Kyle was Krishna's top scorer with 50 runs as Crab added another 32.

After all teams have played five games, Marsa are now leading the standings with 32 points. Krishna follow on 24 ahead of Melita, 18, and Overseas, nine.

This week, Marsa CC play against two touring teams, Wincanton CC (Friday, 4 p.m.) and St Annes (Sunday, 10.30 a.m.).

Academy activities on Saturday will be held between 9.30 and 11.30 a.m.
