Marsa CC and Stockport Grammar School figured in a four-match series last week. The British visitors were touring the islands for the 10th time.

On Saturday, Marsa won the toss and elected to field first. The Stockport batsmen finished with a reasonable 171 runs from their allotted 40 overs with Tom Isherwood topping the scores with 50 runs and Dave Wright hitting 48.

The Marsa reply had a rather shaky start as they lost three wickets for 37 runs. Then, Glen Tavilla and Derek Ali took to the crease and together they pulled the team out of trouble to win the match.

Tavilla was 33 not out giving strike to his partner who was in fine form hitting 13 fours and four sixes on his way to 98 not out.

On Sunday, Stockport fielded first. They bowled out the home side for 132 runs, with Nowell Khosla top scoring with 39.

Marsa had the visitors in real trouble at 43 runs for five wickets but Dave Wright had other ideas and steered his team to victory, making 35 runs not out.

The first game of the series was played on July 6.

Stockport batted first in a 20-over contest and totalled 122 runs with Isherwood and Wright both hitting 32. In reply, the home team made the required runs with one ball to spare. Nowell Khosla made 56 runs and Andy Naudi 22.

On Thursday, Stockport batted first and were bowled out for 126 runs from 31 overs.

Again, Isherwood (clearly the visitors' best batsman on this tour) made 53 runs.

Marsa did well in bowling, Tavilla alone felled four wickets and Darren Grech and Martin Llewlyn took two each. The locals made the required runs with Kevin Azzopardi hitting 53 and Jamie Butler adding 37.

Marsa won the series 3-1.

The Summer League continues next weekend.

On Saturday, Marsa play Melita at the Marsa ground. On Sunday, RMG take on Mellieħa at Safi.

Both matches start at 10.30 a.m.
