The government warned this afternoon that the Marsa power station may emit more smoke than usual in the coming two days as Boiler No 8 is gradually returned to service after a maintenance period.
The boiler will be restarted in the coming hours. It will initially not be operated to its full capacity.
Once Boiler Eight starts working normally, the infamous Boiler Seven - which even had a facebook page dedicated to it after being blamed for several outages over the past months - will be switched off for maintenance and will remain on standby for the peak demand for electricity during the summer.
The government said it remained committed to decommissioning the Marsa power station and phase one of the Delimara power station. As part of this process, Marsa boilers three, four, five and six have already been decommissioned.
