MEP Marlene Mizzi has been appointed rapporteur of an EP report concerning the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.

The report, for the Internal Market and Consumers Committee (IMCO), is on the legislative proposal complementing EU type-approval legislation with regard to Brexit.

This is the first report on the matter to be led by a Maltese MEP.

Ms Mizzi said EU legislative framework governing type-approval for a number of products will no longer apply to the United Kingdom as of the withdrawal date. One of the hardest hit products would be vehicles – a product of vital importance to citizens.

The report is aimed to create a market structure that would still give vehicle manufacturers access to the European single market following the United Kingdom’s exist from the Union.

The legislation at hand was essential for both vehicle manufacturers, consumers and users, as it based itself on vehicle type-approval applications which might no longer be valid in the EU-27 following Brexit.

MEP Mizzi will lead negotiations to ensure a balanced end result for all stakeholders – car manufacturers, importers and consumers.
