Labour MP Marlene Farrugia, the health minister's partner, said today that the suspense ahead of a Cabinet reshuffle is taking its toll on ministers and their staff as well as their performance.

According to unconfirmed reports, Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia is set to lose the health portfolio, but may be moved sideways to social policy.

In a Facebook post, Dr Marlene Farrugia said:

"I cannot but share with you dear friends, the uncertainty and state of anguish the people in the ministry of health and other ministries are going through.

"It is the prerogative of the PM to reshuffle as often as necessary and as he deems fit, but as an MP I cannot but feel that the suspense is taking its toll on ministers, and their staff, and obviously their performance....

"Is the prolongation of this uncertainty necessary ?

"As a backbencher who has already declared that I will not accept any government post in this legislature, and that this is my last legislature in office , I still feel that I should speak out against this unnecessary period of uncertainty.

"No matter how hard one tries to dehumanise politics by stifling the humanity out of politicians, the fact remains that some of us still believe that we can be fully human.... and politicians..."
