The final preparations are underway for Mark Sagona’s eighth solo exhibition which will be held in Paris between November and January.

The exhibition, being set up at the Maltese Embassy on the Champs Élysées, is an initiative of the same embassy and forms part of a programme embarked upon by Malta’s Ambassador to France, Mark A. Miggiani, to promote Maltese art and culture in the French capital. The official inauguration of the exhibition will take place on November 3.

The 21 semi-abstract exhibits, collectively entitled L’Âme d’une Île (The Soul of an Island), are a homage to Malta’s rich cultural legacy and seek to capture and highlight the unique spirit of the Maltese islands.

All the works were produced in recent months and are produced in acrylic on canvas. Typical of the artist’s style, they are rich in abstract qualities, vibrant chromatic qualities and strong contrasts and textures that result from the application of translucent layers of paint.

In the last few years Mr Sagona has put up various personal exhibitions, including a major show at the National Museum of Fine Arts in 2008. His works have been also shown in Rome, and, earlier this year, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Many works by Mr Sagona are scattered in various European countries, the US and Australia.

To mark the event, the artist is publishing a full-colour catalogue which has been designed and photographed by Daniel Cilia.
