A short marine biology course will be organised by Malta University Consulting Ltd from September 9 to 19, consisting of three two-hour lectures on Mediterranean marine ecology, local marine biodiversity and conservation issues, and two scuba diving sessions.

The lectures will take place at the Old University Building in St Paul Street, Valletta, in the evenings, while diving sessions will be held at the Watercolours diving school at the Excelsior Hotel, Floriana. The lecturer will be Alan Deidun, while the diving instructor will be Jason Fabri.

The course caters for both established and budding divers and the dives will be conducted at different depths, depending on the participant's prior experience - participants can opt to attend for lectures only, for diving sessions only or for both. No prior knowledge of scuba diving is necessary.

First-time divers will be following the Discover Scuba Diving course, certified by PADI, which consists of an initial training dive in a swimming pool followed by a shallow water (six to eight metres) dive. Certified divers will be accompanied on a deeper dive (25 to 35 metres) at Zurrieq or Cirkewwa, depending on weather conditions.

All equipment as well as transport will be made available to participants. Participants will be given an attendance certificate, as well as digital synoptic course notes and a PADI-accredited certificate for the Discover Scuba diving course participants.

Those interested should call Joanne Hauge or Ruth Debrincat on 2123 4121/2 or 9904 1985 or e-mail joanna.hauge@muhc.com.mt or ruth.debrincat@muhc.com.mt.

Deadline for course registration is Saturday.
