There were 1,387 church marriages last year, a marginal increase on 2013.

The Archbishop’s Curia said 1,183 marriages were between Maltese nationals. There were 53 marriages between Maltese nationals and foreigners - 29 between Maltese Catholics and foreign Catholics, 20 between Maltese Catholics and non-Catholic Christians foreigners and four between Maltese Catholics and non-Christian foreigners.

Another 13 marriages between Maltese nationals living abroad were registered as were 138 marriages between foreign nationals.

The 53 foreigners who got married in Church last year were 27 men and 26 women. They came from 26 countries including Italy (11) and the UK (10).

Most people got married in May, June and July and were aged between 20 and 29.

A total of 48 marriages were convalidated.

There were six widows/widowers who remarried and 28 people who married after their first marriage was declared null.
