As part of this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day, Mapfre Group organised a talk for its employees with the aim to address the importance of work-life balance.

The talk involved women speakers who hold senior organisational roles, namely entrepreneur Helga Ellul, one of Mapfre Middlesea’s directors Antoinette Caruana, and chief officer of human resources Ines Silva together with chief investment officer Marzena Formosa.

The talk was moderated by William Portelli from the Malta Union Bank of Employees (MUBE). One of the main objectives of the session was to get to know the speakers from both a professional as well as a personal standpoint and to gain a better understanding of work-life balance while taking into consideration the importance of their organisational roles.

It was highlighted that in the case of many working mothers, it is often the reality that no matter how long and hard you think about your decision to return to work and how certain you are that it is the right choice, one must still be prepared for mixed emotions and changes one might face when going back to work.

Notwithstanding this, several topics were covered and discussed during the talk, namely the various emotions felt when undergoing this transition, accepting and learning to cope with these emotions, acknowledging new skills and reviewing options to strike the right balance between one’s career and well-being.

At the end of the talk, speakers gave insightful advice to those currently developing their careers on their own future prospects. Furthermore, Mapfre employees were each given a small gift in celebration of International Women’s Day. Following the conclusion of the session, a selection of healthy food and light beverages were also served.
