Charles Degiorgio, the Maltese professional trainer and driver currently plying his trade in Sweden, earlier this week took part in a horse racing meeting at the Mantorp Racetrack.
Degiorgio managed to win a race with Herr Buddy Run on the short 2,140m distance in an average time of 1.18.5” per kilometre.
He also had a second-place finish with Buddy Buddy Run in another race on the mile distance and drove Pinot Ribb and American Prince Regent to third-place finishes in two races over different distances.
American Prince Regent is owned by Gaetano Sammut.
The positive results in Mantorp have given Degiorgio a much-needed confidence boost in his bid to make his mark in Scandinavia.
“2010 was a very disappointing year for me compared to the previous one,” Degiorgio said.
“In 2009, I won more races and several horses I drove had better performances. This year, I was unlucky in a number of races.
“Some of the horses in my stables were not in good form and had to receive treatment.
“Before Monday’s meeting in Mantorp I was confident of achieving positive results and I’m glad to have reached my objectives. I hope to do as well if not better in future races here in Sweden.”
