Charles Mangion yesterday announced his resignation as Leader of the Opposition clearing the way for Joseph Muscat to succeed him today.

Dr Mangion presented his resignation letter to President Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday.

It takes effect today, when Dr Muscat will be sworn in after being co-opted to Parliament.

Dr Mangion was appointed Leader of the Opposition on June 5 after Alfred Sant's resignation.
