A care home manager's courage in going to the rescue of four patients during a recent fire at Zammit Clapp Hospital has been recognised by his employers.

The incident took place on February 26 when a fire started in the laundry room and spread.

Care Malta, which run the facility, said that four residents were trapped in part of the third floor.  Manager Noel Borg crossed a corridor through the flames and fumes and took the residents to a safer part of the building, staying with them until firemen arrived to safely evacuate them.

During a short ceremony held by CareMalta, Mr Borg was presented with a gold pin of honour by company chairman Nazzareno Vassallo. He was also presented with a board citation recognizing his courage and leadership. All the employees who participated in the evacuation of the residents were also honoured by the company for their contribution in avoiding a tragedy.

Zammit Clapp Residence is home to more than 124 elderly and the workplace of some 90 employees.
