A Romanian national was this morning jailed for 15 months after he admitted using copied credit cards to withdraw a total of €3,000 from Bank of Valletta and APS Bank.

Andrei Dragos Opincaru, 23, was accused of having committed his crimes on and before September 1.

The prosecution said he was part of an international ring of criminals and the cards had belonged to foreigners.

Magistrate Michael Mallia in handing down sentence said he had considered the accused's clean conduct sheet and the gravity of the case.

The money has been returned.
