A Cospicua man facing charges over an attempted murder during a massive fight between clans in his hometown last month was today charged in court with threatening a police inspector during a court case yesterday.
Charlston Cassar, 22, who sports a Fu** the Police tattoo on his neck was accused of threatening Police Inspector Josric Mifsud in a bid to scare or influence him, breaching the peace and uttering obscene language in public.
The threat was made in the presence of Magistrate Anthony Vella and journalists who were present in court to cover the compilation of evidence against Mr Cassar and his three brothers over the free-for-all fight involving some 30 people on November 11.
The commotion in the courtroom took place when Mr Cassar vociferously requested that he be present for the birth of his child today at Mater Dei Hospital.
“Let me tell you, Mr Inspector Josric Mifsud, if I am not in hospital tomorrow...,” Charlston Cassar, said as he stood up and pointed his finger at the inspector and before he was escorted out of the court room.
Before Magistrate Francesco Depasquale, Mr Cassar denied the charges and was remanded in custody.
In view of the birth and the situation involving his girlfriend, Magistrate Depasquale recommended that the prison authorities do their utmost to ensure that Mr Cassar is granted access to visit his partner.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted while lawyer Joseph Mizzi appeared for the man as legal aid.
