A man was this morning conditionally discharged for two years after he pleaded guilty to injuring his former girlfriend and mother of his two children over an incident that took place when he went to pick them up during visiting hours.

Wayne Borg, 22, from Birzebbuga, got into an argument with his former girlfriend.

The argument spewed to the streets of Birzebbuga and continued when the mother of his children ran to a friend's house for protection.

The accused then went to the friends’ residence and a new argument erupted.

The court heard how the argument reached boiling point when Mr Borg broke down the door, demanding that he talks to his girlfriend and that he sees his children.

Police were subsequently called in to calm the situation, but Mr Borg resisted arrest and assaulted two police officials.

Magistrate Antonio Vella conditionally discharged the man and issued a protection order for his former partner, Roxanne Schiavone, and her friend Francesca Aquilina.

Mr Borg paid €270 for the damage he caused.
