A 20-year-old man from Albania was this morning given a suspended sentence after he admitted to falsifying his identity card.

Igli Halili was apprehended at Malta International Airport on Saturday after immigration officials suspected that his identity card had been falsified to read 'Francesco Portulano'.

Lawyer Noel Bartolo suggested a six month jail term suspended for one year. The accused is to be deported later today.

Magistrate Anthony Vella sentenced the man to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
