There can still be more twists and turns in the Premier League race with three matches to go.

On the other hand, Manchester United will all but retain the title with a win at rivals Chelsea this afternoon.

A draw would also suit the Red Devils, who currently enjoy a three-point lead over Chelsea, as United also have a vastly superior goal difference than the Londoners.

Chelsea will be seeking to maintain their unbeaten Premier League home record with a victory that would wipe out their three-point deficit from United at the top.

After the 1-1 draw against Wigan at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are now undefeated in 80 league matches in front of their own fans - a remarkable achievement.

Chelsea's fantastic run is the best in the Premiership as well as in the history of top-flight football in England.

The sequence started against Fulham in 2003-04, six matches from the end of the campaign (Chelsea's last home upset was a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal) when Italian Claudio Ranieri was manager.

If one were to include the domestic cups, Chelsea's unbeaten home run would stand at 101.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is keen to shatter Chelsea's home record and secure the league title in style.

Actually, even if the Red Devils lose tomorrow, they can still win the title on goal difference, provided they win their remaining two games.

On the eve of this vital encounter, Ferguson has reiterated that he has no intention of retiring for the foreseeable future.

If Avram Grant fails to lead Chelsea to at least one of the two top prizes at stake, he will have to look for new pastures, come May.

Michael Essien and Michael Ballack are also prepared to join the list of likely departures if Grant remains at the Bridge. They will probably follow in the footsteps of Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard who are reportedly keen to move in the summer.

Grant surely remembers his Chelsea debut in the 0-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. This will be an added incentive for his side to do well this afternoon.

In the Premier League, Chelsea have not lost at home against their rivals in the last five seasons - three wins and two draws.

In the Champions League, both Chelsea and Manchester United figured in away draws. The Blues needed a stoppage-time own-goal by John Arne Riise to snatch a 1-1 draw at Liverpool while United's match against Barcelona ended goalless.

UEFA Cup place

The battle for fifth place, a trip to Europe via the Uefa Cup, has intensified and now it appears that three teams are in contention - Everton (61 points), Aston Villa (58) and Portsmouth (57).

The two remaining UEFA Cup spots will go to League Cup winners Tottenham and the winners of the FA Cup (Portsmouth or Cardiff).

Hence, Pompey have a dual path to the continent. Since their unlucky exit in the Uefa Cup to Fiorentina, Everton appear to have lost their plot and only won once in six Premier League games.

Sadly for Everton manager David Moyes, all the good work he has done throughout the campaign is in danger as a result of his team's decline in the final stages of the season.

Everton and Aston Villa will be involved in a direct confrontation at Goodison Park. With an almost identical goal difference, the Midlanders must improve their away points' column to stay in contention.

Contrary to Everton, Aston Villa are on a high and in free scoring form after netting 15 goals in their last three wins.

Portsmouth cross swords with Blackburn at Fratton Park tomorrow.

Since booking their place in the FA Cup final at the expense of West Brom, Pompey have won once in their last three away league matches.

As is so often the case, Arsenal have been engulfed with the usual speculation that some of their top players are set to change club and leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.

Manager Arsene Wenger, whose team travel to Derby on Monday night, stated that it would be "criminal" to suggest that his stars cannot fulfil their ambitions at Arsenal.

Relegation fight

With three matches to go, the three teams above the already-demoted Derby and second-from-bottom Fulham - Bolton, Reading and Birmingham - will fight until they drop not to join this duo in the Championship next season.

Bolton have taken heart from their fine win at Middlesbrough. This afternoon, they will be on their travels again as they visit Tottenham. Reading, who have the worst goal difference of the trio, take on Wigan away at the JJB Stadium. The Royals have suffered three defeats on the trot without scoring a goal.

Wigan, like Sunderland and M'boro, have a five-point advantage over Birmingham and look safe.

Birmingham, having emerged from the second City derby against Villa with long faces after a 5-1 thrashing, will remain at St Andrews to entertain Liverpool.
