Joseph Bonnett, 34, from Marsascala was jailed for three years today after admitting to stealing radiators from his father's scrapyard in Birzebbuga.

In its judgement, the court noted that he had a number of previous convictions and had stolen from his father's property.

Bonnett was arraigned along with Paul Camilleri, 32, unemployed from Cospicua.

Testifying, Police Inspector at around 11.45pm on October 29 a report was received about two men who were in a scrap yard in Ghar Dalam, Birzebbuga.

The police found Mr Bonett's car abandoned on site. The stolen radiators were inside.  Bonett and Camilleri were later found in Zejtun.

The inspector said that this was a "classic" case of two men with a drug addiction who needed money to sustain the habit, adding that in Mr Bonnett's case this was the eighth time this has happened and the victim was his father.

Legal aid lawyer, Joseph Ellis said Mr Bonnett went to take what he claimed was owed to him from his father and not from a stranger.

Magistrate Farrugia, conditionally discharged Mr Camilleri since this was his first offence, while Mr Bonett was jailed for three years.
