A 21-year-old man with a daring entrepreneurial spirit landed himself in court after he openly sold pornographic DVDs to fund a website that he wanted to build.

Ishmael Ellul advertised the films on a popular Maltese auction website for €1 and had sold between 60 and 70 of the DVDs before the police got wind of the online advert and called him in for questioning.

Customers would send an e-mail to Mr Ellul who would then meet them in Żurrieq and give them the goods.

In a police statement he admitted to selling the films but said he only sold them to adult men and never to women or children.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard him plead guilty to circulating the pornographic material last September in Żurrieq.

Taking into consideration that he has a clean police record, was a first time offender and that he fully cooperated with the police, the court conditionally discharged him for one year and ordered the confiscation of 200 DVDs and his hard disk.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for Mr Ellul.
