A man was shot in his car last night by two men who blocked the road, the police said.

In a statement, the police said that the man staggered into Zurrieq  station at about 11.30 p.m. and told officers that he had been shot in Triq Dun Karm Lia, Hal Safi.

He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

The police said that preliminary investigations showed that the 66-year-old victim, from Zurrieq, had been driving his car when another vehicle blocked the road. Two armed and hooded men emerged from the vehicle and fired several shots at him.

He, however, managed to drive to Zurrieq police station to seek help.

The police said the man was seriously injured, but his injuries are not life threatening.  His condition is stable.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi is holding an inquiry.
